This session is a case study of where former Uber Security Chief Joe Sullivan went wrong. Over a 20-year career, he was a federal computer crimes prosecutor, corporate Associate General Counsel and CSO/CISO at Facebook, Cloudflare and Uber before a spectacular fall ending in criminal conviction. Sullivan’s former DOJ colleagues convicted him after back-to-back hacks of Uber in 2014 and 2016. But ultimately, he wasn’t convicted for Uber’s security lapses but for his ethical ones. This session will break down the facts that led to a renowned figure becoming a felon, how to avoid a similar fate and what organizational safeguards to put in place to keep leaders informed.
